SRINAGAR, Aug 17: A sparkling century by opening batsman Javed Mir and superb five wicket haul by speedster Sameer Ali helped UCC Reds to register a narrow win by 10 runs over ACC Blues in the ongoing Parvaiz Qureshi Memorial Invitational Cup Cricket Tournament, being organized by Kashmir wing of Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA) at Kashmir University grounds, here.
Earlier, winning the toss and batting first, UCC Reds scored a formidable total of 216 runs in the stipulated 35 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. Javed Mir scored a cracking ton, studded with 6 fours and 4 boundaries. He sent the rival bowlers on a leather hunt and struck all the shots with fluid grace in his power-packed knock. Huwaid Ronga also contributed 28 runs to the total. For ACC Blues, Mohd Ashraf claimed 3 wickets, while Ishtiaq and Muddasir took one wicket each.
ACC blues, in reply, scored 206 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in the allotted overs, thus lost the match by a narrow margin of 10 runs. Abid Showkat top scored with 61 runs, while Ishtiaq Ahmed contributed 41 runs to the total. Sameer Ali was pick of the bowlers for UCC Reds, who scalped 5 important wickets, while Rouf, Showkat and Huwaid claimed one wicket apiece.
The match was officiated by Javed Dawarial and Sameer Ahmed as umpires, while Javed Ahmed maintained the scorebook.
ACC Reds would lock horns with WCC Blues in the next match to be played at the same venue tomorrow.
