MENDHAR, Mar 31: An Army jawan was killed in mysterious gun fire at a post located closer to the Line of Control (LoC), in Mendhar sector of district Poonch this morning.
Sources said that incident took place during early morning when Sepoy Kulwant Singh of 49 RR, hailing from Punjab had been deployed at a forward post. He had sustained bullet injury in his abdomen. The Army authorities informed police about the matter and SHO Mendhar along with some policemen reached there and shifted the body for postmortem to the local civil hospital.
While the Army officials claimed that jawan had committed suicide, SDPO Mendhar Shahid Nahiem said that it was mysterious death case. He said after postmortem at SDH Mendhar by a team of doctors, the dead body of the jawan was handed over to the concerned Unit officers. The police has launched inquest proceedings under section 174 CrPC, the SDPO said.
