JAMMU, Oct 10: Senior leader of Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Jayesh Gupta today lambasted the J&K Administration for not utilizing taxpayers’ money wisely that led to loss-making tourism projects in Jammu.
Addressing a press conference here, Jayesh Gupta said the Government spent crores of rupees on various tourism and other projects in Jammu but instead of generating revenue for the UT, these projects have become burden on the administration and to maintain/run these projects, Government has to further spend taxpayers’ money.
Citing example of Jambu Zoo, the AAP leader said the J&K Government spent crores on Jambu Zoo that has come up at Nagrota in Jammu on a vast land, of course with the thought that this project will generate revenue for it which could be used for the further development but forget of getting any revenue, Government is even using taxpayers’ money again to run and maintain the Jambu Zoo as there is hardly any footfall.
Gupta also gave example of cable car project connecting Bahufort to Mahamaya and Mahamaya to Peerkho. He said this is the only cable car project in the world which is going into losses and Government has to spend taxpayers’ money to maintain this project. He said had this project been executed properly, there would have huge rush of tourists as well as locals but due to thoughtless execution, this project has become a burden on the Government.
He said there are a number of such tourism projects where Government has haphazardly spent crores for renovation or upgradation but none of them has could generate revenue for the Government and create employment for the unemployed youth of the Union Territory.
The AAP leader also criticized the Government for zero result in case of Artificial Lake on River Tawi in Jammu. “It’s been more than 10 years when this project was started but still it is not more than 30% complete but money spent on this is huge and result is zero,” he added and appealed the UT Administration to take immediate steps to make these projects profitable.
