JCC enters QFs; RCC Srinagar thrashes Star CC in JKPL T20 Tourney

JAMMU, Apr 15: After taking a 5-wicket haul against Nagrota Cricket Club on the other day, promising speedster Rohit Sharma scalped 4 important wickets against I-Tec New Star XI today, to help his team seal berth in the quarterfinals of the ongoing Jammu and Kashmir Premier League (JKPL) T20 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Tawi Sports Club at GGM Science College Hostel ground, here.
Earlier, in the first match played today, Rainawari Cricket Club (RCC) Srinagar defeated Star Cricket Club by 9 wickets in a high scoring match.
Winning the toss and batting first, Star Cricket Club scored a decent total of 150 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Pardeep Verma was the top scorer with 78 runs, which included 13 delectable boundaries, while Abhishek, Mohil and Chander 18, 14 and 13 runs to the total respectively. For RCC Srinagar, Satish Kumar and Praful Dhar took 3 wickets each, while Dilbagh Singh, who captained the team in absence of regular skipper Kuldeep Kumar bagged 2 important wickets and Sourav Chopra claimed one. Praful was the most economic among the bowlers, who conceded 17 runs in his 4 overs, Satish, Dilbagh and Sourav gave away 24, 30 and 19 runs in 4 overs respectively.
In reply, RCC rode on a quick-fire knock of unbeaten 89 runs by Ishtiaq to chase the total in 16 overs.Ishtiaq hit 8 crispy boundaries and 4 big sixes in his innings, while Satish Kumar contributed unbeaten 19 runs with one boundary and opener Rhythem Mahajan chipped in with 18 runs, studded with 2 fours. Arun was the only successful bowler from Star Club, who claimed the wicket of Rhythem.
In another match, JCC defeated I-Tec New Star by 8 wickets in a low scoring game.
Batting first, I-Tec bundled out for 93 runs in 19.3 overs. Sumesh top scored with 40 runs, while Raman contributed 16 runs to the total. For JCC, Rohit Sharma was the wrecker-in-chief, who bagged 4 important wickets, while Paras Sharma took 2 wickets. Vishwajeet Singh, Vivrant and Rocky shared one wicket each.
In reply, JCC chased the target in 9.2 overs by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets. Jaswinder Singh scored brisk 38 runs, while Surya contributed 22 runs. Paras Sharma chipped in with unbeaten 11 runs. Gourav and Vipan claimed one wicket each for I-Tec New Star team.
