SRINAGAR, Jan 22: Jamat-e-Islami (JeI) today said that they will make all efforts to recover the property of the organization that was donated by Hurriyat Conference chairman Syed Ali Shah Geelani to Milli Trust last week.
Amir of JeI, Jammu and Kashmir Mohammad Abdullah Wani, said here that JeI is concerned about the property donated by Geelani and the organisation will take necessary steps to safeguard it.
“We know that he has left for Delhi but we will send our delegation to meet him there as it is a serious matter. We will discuss the issue with him so as to resolve it,” Wani said.
“If Geelani Sahib refuses to hand over the property to JeI then I will call the meeting of Central council of JeI so as to work out future strategy.”
Wani said that they have documentary evidence that the property donated by Geelani belongs to JeI. “When the Income Tax Department inquired about Geelani’s house, he argued that the property in his possession at Hyderpora belongs to JeI.
The JeI chief stated that Geelani in several public rallies has mentioned that his property at Hyderpora belongs to JeI. “The property, lying in the possession of Geelani, was purchased when Hakeem Ghulam Nabi was heading the JeI”, he added.
“As Geelani Sahib was important member of JeI so property was handed over to him. Even when he parted ways from JeI and established Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, it was decided that the property will continue to remain in possession of Geelani”, said Wani.
“There are properties in the name of various JeI members. There is a property in my name also but I am not the owner. We are just the custodians of these properties”, Wani added.
“Geelani Sahib in actual tried to transfer the property of Jamaat to Tehreek-e-Hurriyat as all the trustees of Mili trust belong to Tehreek-e-Hurriyat and no one is from Jamat,” Wani said.
It may be mentioned here that Geelani last week donated his property to Milli Trust including the house at Hyderpora where he resides. JeI, however, laid claim on the house saying Geelani can’t donate JeI property.
