Srinagar, Apr 9: Police today arrested a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant from Shirpora village of North Kashmir’s Bandipora district.
A police officer said that the newly recruited militant was apprehended during a joint search operation by Army’s 52 RR, 161 TA and 176 BN CRPF at Shirapora, Baramulla.
He said that after receiving specific inputs, a cordon and search operation was launched in the area by a joint team of security forces.
The officer said that before the security forces could approach the target house where the militant was believed to be hiding, he had already escaped from there.
“The search was later extended to the surrounding areas and late in the evening the militant was apprehended while trying to escape from there by taking advantage of the darkness,” he said.
He identified the militant as Bashir Ahmad Beigh son of Ghulam din Beigh, a resident of Shirpora village of Baramulla and was part of the JeM militant outfit.
He said that the security forces also recovered an AK-47 rifle, two magazines and 40 rounds from his possession.
“He was involved in recruiting the local youth of the area to militant ranks. Last week, two local boys who were prevented from joining the militant ranks after they went missing from Shirpora village were also lured and motivated by him.
