JAMMU, Aug 24: Delhi’s talented young ambidextrous cricketer Jhonty Sidhu held his nerves when it mattered the most at a crucial juncture against a disciplined J&K bowling attack to fashion 4-wicket victory for Delhi in the match of prestigious All India Buchi Babu Invitational Cricket Tournament at Salem Cricket Foundation Ground, Tamil Nadu.
Coming in at number-7 when Delhi were struggling at 67/5 while chasing a target of 156 runs on the fourth and final day of the match, Jhonty Sidhu, who had scored classic 65 runs in the first innings, again dazzled with the willow, scoring masterful unbeaten 52 runs off 70 balls to script much needed win for Delhi. He hit the ball with fluid grace and utter brilliance and struck 2 fours and 4 massive sixes in his brilliant knock.
Earlier, Delhi began the chase of a modest total on a disastrous note as speedster Auqib Nabi was lethal with the ball, removing top order cheaply to put Delhi in deep trouble at 33/4 including the wicket of first innings’ centurion Anuj Rawat.
However, Sidhu along with Sumit (33) Hrithik Shokeen (22), Ayush Badoni (12) and Pranshu (10*) took the team out of troubling waters to finally register a crucial win.
For J&K, Auqib Nabi was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding 43 runs in 12 overs, while Umar Nazir, Abid Mushtaq and Shubham Khajuria claimed one wicket each. J&K will take on Mumbai in the next outing on August 27, 2023.
The Jammu and Kashmir team is being accompanied by Hilal Zargar as Manager, P Krishan Kumar as Coach, Sunny Kumar as Strength & Conditioning Coach, Chirag Pandya as Physio and Sahil Magotra as Performance/Video Analyst.
In J&K’s 1st innings, they scored 256/10 with help of Fazil Rashid (50), Shubham Pundir (46), Hrithik Shokeen 5/69, Siddhant Sharma 2/31.
In Delhi’s 1st innings score 386/10, Anuj Rawat (160), Jhonty Sidhu (65), Hrithik Shokeen (56), Abid Mushtaq 7/134 and Umar Nazir 3/31.
J&K’s 2nd innings 285/10, Shubham Khajuria (80), Shubham Pundir (71), Himanshu Chouhan 4/28, Ayush Badoni 2/22, while in Delhi’s 2nd innings, they scored 156/6, Jhonty Sidhu (52), Sumit Mathur (33), Auqib Nabi 3/43, Umar Shubham Khajuria 1/6.
