J&K almost certain to gain 1st innings lead, in command against Services

JAMMU, Jan 12: Teamwork helped Jammu and Kashmir to be in command against Services on Day-2 of the Ranji Trophy Elite Group-C match at Air Force Complex ground, Palam in New Delhi.
Jammu and Kashmir are almost certain to gain a sizeable 1st innings lead as the hosts were struggling on 238/9 in 76.1 overs at the draw of stumps today.
Sachidanand Pandey (4) was at the crease when Abdul Samad removed dangerous looking Diwesh Gurdev Pathania (41) on the only ball bowled by him today. PS Poonia is the last Services’ batsman to join Pandey tomorrow.
AA Bamal top scored with 48 runs, while AP Sharma contributed 47 runs to the total. Diwesh Pathania (41), skipper Rajat Paliwal (34), Ravi Chauhan (27) and Rahul Singh Gehlaut (22) were the other contributors.
From Jammu and Kashmir, Mohammad Mudhasir was the pick of the bowlers, who took 3 important wickets by conceding just 38 runs in his 19 overs, while Umar Nazir was a bit expensive who bagged 2 wickets by giving away 87 runs in his 18 overs. Skipper Parvez Rasool, Auqib Nabi, Abid Mushtaq and Abdul Samad claimed one wicket each.
Earlier, resuming from an overnight total of 338/7, Jammu and Kashmir managed to score a good total of 360 runs in 93.1 overs. Skipper Parvez Rasool, who was unbeaten on 171 runs, added 11 more runs to his overnight score before getting out at 182 runs off 178 balls, studded with 24 boundaries and 2 sixes. He was the last man to be dismissed. Abid Mushtaq also contributed valuable 35 runs to the total. Shubham Khajuria (55) and Auqib Nabi (30) also played their role in J&K’s good total.
For Services, speedster Diwesh Pathania took 4 wickets, while Sachidanand Pandey and PS Poonia bagged 3 wickets each.
At this stage, Services is still trailing by a big margin of 122 runs with just one wicket in hand, so J&K will be eyeing for a sizeable 1st innings lead.
With 2-days of the game left in this match, J&K will certainly enjoy an edge.
