For the entire country and also for J&K, the impending parliamentary election is of special significance. Voters have not had a good impression of coalition government pattern. They feel it arrests development and engages the attention of activisms in fissiparous activities. If past experience can be a lesson, it should be allowed to make the voter wiser. Polling for 6 Lok Sabha seats in J&K begins on April 10 and ends on May 7. About 7 million voters of J&K will exercise their voting right for these parliamentary seats and in all there will be 9127 polling booths to cover the full exercise. Full security arrangements will be provided as in the previous election.
That nowhere is democracy without flaws is as true for our State as for any other State in the country. But perhaps in the light of insurgency that has brought untold misery to our people, the voters in the State should be more cautious and more selective in using their vote judiciously. They need to evaluate very dispassionately how far their aspirations have been fulfilled and how far the material and moral life of people has shown a change towards improvement. We want that our voter, whether in urban part of the state or in rural part, understands fully the value of his vote and its role in shaping the destiny of the State, the province or the district etc. This opportunity should be made good use of and not squandered away with any qualms of conscience.
