SRINAGAR, Dec 29: The Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Championship and Para Arm Wrestling Championship will take place at the Indoor Stadium in Srinagar, starting January 10, 2025. The two-day event will see the participation of over 400 athletes from various districts across the region, competing in a range of age groups and weight categories.
Former Mr. Kashmir, Mushtaq Ahmad Zargar, shared that the event will be attended by key figures, including Praveen Dabas, Chief Advisor of the People’s Arm Wrestling Federation of India, and Preeti Jagiani, founder of Pro Panja. Zargar also spoke about the success of last year’s national-level competition, where Jammu and Kashmir secured 20 medals among more than 1,000 athletes.
Farooq Ahmad Dar, President of the Jammu and Kashmir Arm Wrestling Association, confirmed that athletes from all 20 districts would participate. The Championship will feature 10 categories, with separate events for physically challenged athletes.
Dar highlighted that the primary goal of the event is to promote fitness among youth and steer them away from drugs and social vices. He also appealed to the Government, particularly the Minister for Youth Services and Sports, for logistical support to ensure the event’s success. Athletes can register online to participate.
