SRINAGAR, Mar 21: In the ongoing State Football Championship here at TRC Synthetic Turf Srinagar, J&K Bank thrashed District football Association (DFA) Pulwama by six goals to one in the first quarterfinal match of the tournament thus becoming the first team to enter the semi-finals.
DFA Srinagar got better of J&K SRTC in another quarterfinal match to make way for the semifinals.
With the starting whistle Bankmen dominated the proceedings and played attacking football from end to end. Striker Adnan Ayub gave his team early breakthrough in the 10’minute of the match making penetrating passing combination with Shahid and Rohit. Danish Farooq doubled the lead in the 13th minute of the match. Till the end of the first half score remained 2-0 in favour of the Bank team.
In the second half DFA Pulwama went to complete defense tactics by increasing their number of players in penalty area, not allowing much space to Bank strikers but were unable to stop Toufeeq Ahmed from scoring twice in 55th and 65th minutes of the match. Shahid Mushtaq finished one with a fine placement giving his team lead of fifth goal. Coming in as a substitute Mohammad Uneeb scored the sixth goal of the match on a fine through ball supplied by midfielder Shiekh Rizwan.
In the dying minutes Referee awarded DFA Pulwama a consolation penalty on a hand ball inside eighteen yard box and captain Zahid made no mistake in converting the same into a goal.
Match ended at 6-1 scoreline and with this win J&K Bank reached the semifinals of the tournament.
The tournament is being organized by District Football Association Srinagar of J&K Football Association.
This was J&K Bank’s first match of the season here at Srinagar after winning the All India Super Sports Cup Lucknow.
In another match, DFA Srinagar defeated J&K SRTC by a solitary goal to qualify for the semifinals. Mubashir was the goal scorer for DFA Srinagar, who netted it in the first half. Though, the players of SRTC team made many moves and tried their level best to score an equalizer, but failed in their attempt.
