JAMMU, Jan 14: The preparations for the 38th National Games, which will be held in Uttarakhand, are progressing with a crucial meeting attended by the Chef-de-Missions (CDMs) from all States and Union Territories (UTs). The meeting took place at the National Games Secretariat in Maharana Pratap Sports College, Dehradun, today. It was chaired by Sunaina Kumari, Chairperson of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and supported by members of the Games Technical Conduct Committee (GTCC), including Maninder Singh and Ravinder Choudhary.
Er. Kiran Wattal, the CDM of the Jammu & Kashmir (J&K) contingent, represented the UT at the meeting, where various important issues were discussed regarding the upcoming National Games. One of the key concerns raised by Wattal was the delay in athlete registrations, as certain sports disciplines have yet to be activated on the registration portal. This issue, he noted, was causing delays in the registration process. Additionally, he pointed out the difficulty in obtaining confirmed train tickets for players and officials due to pre-booking overload, which could affect travel arrangements.
The discussion also covered essential logistical matters such as hotel accommodation, transportation and medical facilities at both the hotel and competition venues for the athletes. The GTCC assured that these concerns would be resolved promptly to ensure smooth arrangements for all participants.
During the meeting, Sunaina Kumari informed all CDMs that the registration portal would be extended for one more day, closing at midnight on January 14, 2025. No further registrations would be accepted after this deadline.
Wattal also sought clarification on the participation of dignitaries from the Government of J&K for the National Games. In response, it was decided that official communication from both the CDM and the J&K Government should be submitted in advance to facilitate proper arrangements for dignitaries’ travel, accommodation, and venue visits.
