JAMMU, Nov 20: Outplaying their rivals convincingly in the quarterfinals, J&K Central Hockey Team of Police and Guru Nanak Hockey Club entered semifinals of the ongoing 2nd Sant Gurbaksh Singh Danna Memorial Hockey Tournament, being organized under the aegis of Hockey J&K at KK Hakhu Astroturf Hockey Stadium, here.
In the first quarterfinal match, Guru Nanak Hockey Club defeated Young Blue Hockey Club by four goals to three (4-3) via tie breaker.
The match ended in (1-1) draw in the stipulated time, with Karan scoring for Young Blue Club in 5th minute and Gagan netting it for Nanak Nagar Hockey Club in 27th minute of the match.
In tie breaker, the goal scorers for Guru Nanak Club were Ishtiaq, Charanpreet and Koushal, while from Young Blue Club, Aatish Goel and Janam scored goals.
In another quarterfinal clash, Central Hockey Team of J&K Police defeated Zorawar Hockey Club by two goals to nil (2-0) in an easy contest. The first half ended in a goalless draw. However, in the 32nd minute Sikander Paul Singh after receiving a brilliant pass from Amrinder Singh scored a blinder for J&K Police to get much required lead. The lead was increased by yet another goal scored by Amrinder Singh, who pelted a goal in 57th minute of the match. Both the teams got five penalty corners, but failed to convert any of them.
The matches were officiated by Dilbir Mehta, Charanjeet Singh, Jagjit Singh, Joginder Singh, Matinderpal Singh and Tournament Director, G S Bakshi.
Rajinder Singh, retired AEE and Arvin Kotwal, RTO Jammu were the guests of honour in today’s matches.
In tomorrow’s fixture, Banda Bhadur Singh Club Poonch will take on Star XI Pathankote, while Namdhari Club will face New Gurdaspur Club at the same venue.
