JAMMU, Dec 10: In a thrilling encounter at Kolkata, Jammu & Kashmir defeated the formidable Gujarat by 7 wickets in the Senior Women’s ODI Tournament. The match, initially delayed due to overnight rain, was reduced to 39 overs per side. J&K won the toss and chose to field.
The J&K bowlers dominated the Gujarat batting lineup. Sarla Devi delivered an outstanding performance, taking 2 wickets without conceding a run in her first over. She finished with remarkable figures of 4 wickets for 30 runs. Sandhya, the ace spinner, claimed 2 wickets, while Bisma Hassan, Rubia Syed and Ananya Sharma each took 1 wicket, restricting Gujarat to 176/9 in their allotted 39 overs.
In reply, the J&K openers, Rudrakshi Chib (42) and Bawandeep Kaur (32), gave the team a solid start, putting on a 52-run partnership. Chitra Singh Jamwal remained unbeaten on 39, and Rubia Syed played a match-winning knock of 50* off 38 balls, including 4 sixes and 3 fours. J&K comfortably reached 182/3 in 36 overs, sealing victory with 3 overs to spare.
Rubia Syed was named Player of the Match for her brilliant all-round performance. J&K has now won 3 matches and will face Himachal Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Mizoram in upcoming fixtures, with a single loss to Railways so far.
