JAMMU, Jan 6: Jammu and Kashmir (J&K) women’s cricket team held their nerves in a thrilling finish to defeat Meghalaya by 2 runs in the ongoing Women’s U-23 T20 Trophy at the Icon Cricket Academy Ground, Jagiroad, Guwahati, today.
Batting first, J&K posted a fighting total of 95 runs in their allotted 20 overs, losing 6 wickets in the process. The opening trio of Sheena Saraf, Bawandeep Kaur and captain Rudrakshi Chib led the team’s charge with solid contributions. Sheena top-scored with 31 runs off 45 balls, including 2 boundaries, while Bawandeep made 29 runs off 40 balls, striking 4 fours. Skipper Rudrakshi Chib also played a crucial knock of 23 runs from 26 balls, which included 2 boundaries.
For Meghalaya, Suriti was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets, while Rubi Chetri also contributed with 1 wicket. Chasing a target of 96 runs, Meghalaya found themselves under pressure right from the start. The J&K bowlers kept things tight and disciplined, restricting the Meghalaya side to just 93/7 in 20 overs, securing an exhilarating 2-run victory.
Meghalaya’s top scorer was their captain Rubi Chetri, who made a valiant 28 runs off 59 balls. Mansi and Ankita contributed 18 and 11 runs, respectively, but it wasn’t enough to take their team over the line.
For J&K, Captain Rudrakshi Chib and Mariya Noorain picked up 2 wickets each, while Madhu Devi, Maroof Anjum, and Arveen Riyas claimed 1 wicket apiece. The win was a testament to J&K’s well-knit team performance under the guidance of Head Coach Dr. Roopali Slathia and her supporting staff.
