JAMMU, Oct 23: Jammu and Kashmir Men’s U-23 cricket team displayed exceptional character and teamwork to earn 7 crucial points against Saurashtra in the Col CK Nayudu Trophy at the Niranjan Shah Cricket Stadium. On a batting-friendly pitch, where over 1000 runs were scored in both first innings combined, J&K secured a first-innings lead and gained valuable points.
Resuming at 269/4, Saurashtra’s Raxit Mehta led with a brilliant 202 off 349 balls, but their innings ended at 487, falling 81 runs short of J&K’s massive 568/9 declared. J&K spinners Vishal Kumar and Janib Javaid took 3 wickets each, while Mujtaba Yousuf and Arnav Gupta chipped in with one wicket apiece.
J&K’s first-innings highlights included Yawer Hassan’s 219, skipper Kanhaiya Wadhawan’s 155 and Qamran Iqbal’s 109. Saurashtra’s Maurya Ghoghari claimed 6 wickets. J&K earned 7 points, including 3 from the first-innings lead, 3 batting points and 1 bowling point, while Saurashtra secured 5 points.
