JAMMU, Dec 2: J&K Election Watch in association with ADR organized voters awareness campaign jointly with ‘Wake Up Jammu’ Campaign, which was started by District Sweep Team at Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar, here today.
The campaign was coordinated by the NSS Wing of the College.
The Principal of the College said that youth has the prime role to play in bringing about the changes in the society and urged upon the youth to not vote just for the sake of voting, but vote reasonably.
S. Balvinder Singh, State coordinator ADR and head J&K Election Watch said that the prime objective of their organization is to educate the voters not to be swayed by inducements, coercion and intimidation.
Singh further said they have already released the data with regard to the financial, educational and criminal background of all the contesting candidates contesting in the first three phases and will release the data of the remaining two phases very soon.
Singh said that the Supreme Court has specifically said in its judgement that the voters have the elementary right to know the full particulars of a candidate who is going to represent him in the Parliament or in the State Assemblies.
He also showed the website of their organization “www.myneta.info, which has the data of more than 80, 000 candidates who had contested both in parliament as well as in the State Assemblies.
Students also enquired about their queries relating to the addition, deletion and other clarification in the electoral rolls from the experts from District SVEEP Team in the Mobile Voter Registration Van in which online voters’ registration facility was available.
I D Soni, State Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides and SK Jain, President Vichar Kranti Manch also spoke on the occasion.
Faculty members of the College who were present on the occasion were Prof Ashique Malik, Head NSS unit of Government College for Women Gandhi Nagar, Prof Shruti Rajput and Prof. Nazia Rasool.
Other JK Election Watch members who were present included Raman Sharma, RTI Activist, S Harasis Singh, Sharanjit Singh.
