JAMMU, Feb 10: Sufiyan Waheed Sohil, an international fencing player from Jammu and Kashmir’s district Ramban made a remarkable debut at the 38th National Games held in Uttarakhand. In his first-ever participation at the National Games, Sufiyan showcased exceptional skill and determination, securing a silver medal in the individual fencing event.
Sufiyan’s journey to the finals was nothing short of impressive, as he defeated some of the top fencers in the competition. In the quarterfinals, he triumphed over Punjab’s International fencer Udaveer Singh with a 15-22 score. In the semi-finals, he outclassed Services’ fencer Robert with a 15-11 victory, setting up a nail-biting final.
In a fiercely contested final, Sufiyan came agonizingly close to gold but lost to Services’ International fencer Jetlee by 11-10, in a priority decision in the final moments of the match. Despite the loss, his silver medal remains a testament to his hard work and dedication.
