JAMMU, May 1: Three J&K fencers including Vishal Thapar, Riya Bakshi and Rishika Khajuria have been selected for Asian Games final selection trials.
The top six ranking fencers including three from J&K in three events including epee, foil and sabre have been shortlisted for the preparation camp and final selection trials for Asian Games slated to be held at Hangzhou, China from September 23 to October 8.
The fencers secured six top ranking in individuals event during the 33rd Senior National Fencing Championship held at Pune, Maharashtra have been shortlisted for the coaching camp wherein three fencers from J&K namely Vishal Thapar, Sabre Individual National Bronze medalist (Rank -4), Rishika Khajuria, Sabre Fencer National Rank-6 and Riya Bakshi, Foil Individual Bronze medalist (Rank-03) shortlisted for Asian Games preparation camp, which commence from May 24 onward.
All three fencers are products of Fencing Training Centre of J&K Sports Council at MA Stadium Jammu.
The Secretary J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul and convener J&K Fencing Association, Rashid A Choudhary congratulated all the selected fencers, their coaches and parents on this marvelous achievement.
