J&K Gymnasts shine at National Championship

JAMMU, Apr 5: J&K UT Gymnasts once again made the Union Territory proud by winning one Silver and Seven Bronze medals in the recently concluded 17th Senior /Junior National Aerobic Gymnastics Championships and Sub Junior Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships held at Bengaluru from March 29-31.
The J&K won first Silver in the senior aerobic category of Aero team comprising Manvinder Singh, Sudipti Khanna, Kamal Chib, Mayank Jain, Honey Mehra, Inderdeep, Manav Gupta and Sahil Sahi whereas team of Maharashtra won Gold in this category and Karnataka clinched Bronze medal.
In the mixed pair event of senior category, Gourav Chettri and Yaadavi Mahajan won bronze for the UT, while the Gold and Silver were won by the pairs of Maharashtra & Gujarat, respectively.
In the trio event of senior category, Gourav Chettri, Manav Gupta and Laksh Mahajan won bronze for J&K, whereas Gold and Silver were secured by the trio of Services & Maharashtra, respectively.
In the group event of senior category, Gourav Chettri, Laksh Mahajan, Manav Gupta, Yaadavi Mahajan and Sudipti Khanna won bronze for J&K whereas Gold and Silver in this event were won by Services and Maharashtra respectively.
In junior category, Riya Sharma won Bronze medal in the individual woman event, while Gold and Silver were won by Majida and Ariha from West Bengal and Manipur, respectively, whereas in sub junior category, Ruddrakash Khanna of J&K won bronze medal in individual man event and in the same age group Ayman Tak, Aakshra and Pranavi Sharma won bronze medal in trio event, whereas gold and bronze were won by team of Maharashtra and West Bengal.
These medal winners are getting training under coaches Krupali Singh and Manisha Gupta at Sports Council’s Gymnastics Academy at MA Stadium Jammu.
Vice President Gymnastics Federation of India and President Gymnastics Association of J&K Kiran Wattal thanked the LG Administration especially Secretary Sports Council for timely support of conducting coaching camp facilities as well as financial support to the participating team.
Wattal also thanked the J&K Olympic Association for supporting the gymnasts and Association.
