J&K has more than 8 lakh metered power consumers

SRINAGAR, Oct 7: Government today said that there are 8, 38, 258 metered power consumers in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a written reply to MLC Ashok Khajuria, the Minister Incharge Power stated that out of 2125994 registered consumers in State, 838258 are metered.
It further stated that the highest number of power consumers are in Kashmir Division (1283598) followed by Jammu Division (801257) and Ladakh Division (41139). But when it comes to metering, Jammu Division tops the state with 451413 metered consumers followed by Kashmir at 363314 and Leh at 23531.
The Government stated that though the metered consumers are not provided with uninterrupted power supply across the year but less curtailment is done as compared to non-metered flat rate consumers.
“A separate curtailment schedule is implemented for metered consumers for summer as well as winter months. Un-interrupted power supply is provided during summers barring distress cuts enforced at grid level,” the Government stated.
