J&K karatekas win 5 medals in Independence Cup

JAMMU, Aug 19: Bringing laurels for the State and also for themselves, the karatekas from Jammu and Kashmir bagged 5 medals in the 9th All India Independence Cup Karate Championship, which concluded at Talkatora Indoor Stadium, New Delhi yesterday.
Sahil Singh of KC Public School won gold in men’s junior-76 kg, Sumit Sharma of Sri Ranbir Higher Secondary School (SRML) bagged silver in men’s 54 kg weight category, while Vishal Singh and Suraj Prakash claimed bronze in senior men’s category and Arindham clinched bronze in Under-12 category.
The team was led by Ambedkar Gupta, Style Chief of J&K State for Shito-Ryu-Seko Kai Style of Karate.
Over 2500 karatekas from all over the India took part in the Championship which was organized by Shito-Ryu-Seko Kai Karate Do India, approved by All India Karate Do Federation and recognized by Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports.
Amit Kumar Sangra attended the Championship as an official referee from Jammu and Kashmir.
