Earlier, in the opening match played between Manipur and West Bengal at Stadium Srinagar. Manipur defeated West Bengal by 4-1. Romex Singh and Nipen Singh of Manipur scored one goal each.
At Polo Ground, Uttarakhand defeated Haryana by two goals to one ( 2 – 1), while in another match played at the same venue, Gujarat blanked Vidhya Bharti by six goals to nil (6-0).
Meanwhile, at University Ground (A), Kerala defeated Rajasthan by (7-1). The highlights of the match were four consecutive goals netted by Shahad. In a one-sided contest at Kashmir University Ground (B), Punjab blanked Puducherry by (12-0).
