JAMMU, Apr 24: Keeping in view the large participation and positive response from the general public witnessed last year, the Jammu and Kashmir Police instead of Divisional Level event is organizing State Level Marathon ‘Run for Fun’ on April 27, 2014, here.
This was stated by IG, AP and IR, PR Manhas while addressing media persons at Police Headquarters, Gulshan Ground, here today.
He was accompanied by Vijay Singh Sambyal, DIG IR South Range, K L Bhagat, DIG AP North Range, SO to ADGP Armed, Zahid Manhas, SSPs Sham Sunder and Vijay Singh, PRO to DGP Mohd Shafi and Sports Officer Kuldeep Handoo.
He said there will be 4 kilometers run for senior citizens, which will commence at Gulshan ground and culminate at the same venue before passing through Vikram Chowk, Green Belt Park and Panama Chowk, while there will be 6 kilometers run for girls from Gulshan ground to Bagh-e-Bahu temple and back.
He further said there will be 21 kilometers marathon for boys and girls and 42 kilometers for men from Gulshan ground to Bajalta and Sidhra and back respectively.
The speakers further said apart from general participants, 400 children from downtrodden and remote areas of the State from the districts of Baramulla, Budgam, Shopian, Kupwara, Bandipora, Rajouri, Poonch, Doda and Kathua are participating in the event, adding that the expenditure on all the facilities to these downtrodden participants like boarding, lodging and transport will be borne out by the J&K Police Department.
The main attractions of the Marathon will be yoga demonstration, gymnastics, orchestra, DJ system, cultural programme, band display, spoon race and free medical check-up for senior citizens.
The event will be flagged off at 5:20 am with 42 kilometers marathon for men, which will be followed by other events and the prize distribution function will be held at 9 am.
According to the organizers, a total of Rs 3 lakh along with trophies and certificates will be awarded to the best performers in various categories of the event, besides T-shirts will be distributed among all the participants at the venue.
