JAMMU, July 6: The first meeting of Martial Arts Association of Jammu and Kashmir (Amalgamation of Martial Arts) was held at Amar Singh Club, here today.
The agenda of the meeting apart from other items was the election of the office bearers of the Association, which was held under the supervision of J& K Olympic Association (JKOA).
“The motive behind forming Martial Arts Association was to bring all Martial Arts together as there is a lot of confusion regarding various Martial Arts’ Associations formed in J&K and all over India. The basic motive is to promote the games at the highest level,” said Prof Ashutosh Sharma, Secretary J&K Olympic Association and Vice President Indian Olympic Association.
To give boost to the Martial Arts in the state and the country as well, the meeting decided to take initiatives with regard to constitution of Martial Arts Association of India by having meetings like-minded sportspersons and sports promoters and enthusiasts.
The office bearers of the newly formed Martial Arts Association of Jammu were elected unanimously with Deepak Handa, former President of J&K Yoga Association being elected as the President of the Asociation. Vijay Saraf was elected as the Senior Vice President and Tarsem Sharma as the General Secretary. Rameshwar Singh Jamwal was elected as the Treasurer and Vivek Sharma (Advocate) d as the Legal Advisor.
The house unanimously authorised the President Mr Handa to nominate other office bearers of the Association, the list of which would be announced shortly.
Prominent among others who attended the meeting were Abhinav Anand, RS Gill, Kuldeep, Ravi and Dr Vikram Handa.
