JAMMU, Dec 15: The Jammu and Kashmir Olympic Association (JKOA) held its elections today at the Amar Singh Club in Jammu, where Dushyant Sharma was elected as the new President.
The election process was overseen by the Returning Officer, Adv. C.S. Gupta, and the proceedings were observed by Madukant Pathak, the Observer from the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) and Treasurer of the Athletic Federation of India.
A handout issued by the Returning Officer confirmed that the election was conducted in full compliance with the National Sports Code of India (2011) and under the directions of the Supreme Court of India.
The following candidates were declared elected unopposed by the Returning Officer: Dr. Nirmolak Singh as Senior Vice President, Er. Kiran Wattal as Vice President (K), and Vikas Gupta as Vice President. The position of Joint Secretary was filled by S.B.S. Jaggi, while the following individuals were elected as Executive Members: Rajesh Dutta, Kuljit Singh Jamwal, Vinod Bhatia, Amit Chib, Tarsen Sharma and Supinder Deep Singh.
In the contested elections, Dushyant Sharma secured 22 votes, defeating Rajiv Sharma, who received 1 vote, to become the new President of the association. Ajay Vaid was elected General Secretary with 22 votes, while Ajay Sharma garnered 1 vote. Yudhvir Singh was elected Treasurer with 21 votes, while Kuldeep Gupta received 1 vote.
However, it was reported that some members of the association raised objections regarding the election process and left the venue midway during the proceedings.
