JAMMU, May 12: Taekwondo players from Jammu and Kashmir took part in 1st Int’l Online Taekwondo Champion-ship, which was organized by World Taekwondo Europe, WTE affiliated to World Taekwondo (WT).
This was for the first time in the history of Taekwondo that such an event was organized.
Over 1200 players from around 75 countries all over the world participated in the Championship and showcased their talent by performing at home during the ongoing pandemic.
The players from J&K included Sanvi Sharma (Jammu), Kushagra Sharma (Jammu), Achutam Dev Singh (Jammu), Bhanu Pratap Atri (Jammu), Shenaz Parveen (Kargil), Abbas Khursheed (Srinagar), Danish Manzoor (Baramulla), Burhan Din Khan (Doda), Hashim Majeed (Srinagar) and Fayaz Ahmad (Bandipora).
Kushagra Sharma, Danish Manzoor, Sanvi Sharma and Shenaz Parveen made it into the top 20 and 30 lists all over the world in their respective divisions.
All these athletes were trained and prepared by Master Atul Pangotra for the Championships through online coaching seminars.
The main aim of the event was the promotion of Taekwondo Poomsae which is an important part of Taekwondo Sport and to keep the athletes motivated to train in these tough times of lockdown.
Atul Pangotra, Common-wealth Medallist, International Referee and Coach was the official of the event.
The participants had to join the live stream on YouTube held by World Taekwondo Europe and had to showcase their Poomsae skills one by one.
After successful conclusion of this event by WTE, the President of J&K Taekwondo Association DN Pangotra has suggested all the District Associations to conduct online Coaching camps and District Level Competitions.
