J&K Police wins 8th State Wrestling Championship

JAMMU, Mar 30: J&K Police emerged overall winners scoring 29 points in the 8th J&K State Wrestling Championship while Jammu District scoring 18 points remained runners-up and the third place went to District Reasi scoring 10 points in the Championship, which concluded at Dewan Mandir, Akhara, here.
Championship was organized by J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association and sponsored by J&K State Sports Council.
52 wrestlers from all over the J&K State took part in the championship and participating Districts and teams included Jammu, Udhampur, Reasi, Poonch, Kathua, Samba, Ganderbal, Anantang and J&K Police State Championship 2016.
The closing ceremony was attended by a galaxy of dignitaries.
Earlier, Shiv Kumar Sharma, president J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association, treasurer Indian Style Wrestling Association of India and Joint Secretary J&K State Sports Council presented welcome address, while vote of thanks presented by Prem Choudhary, chairman J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association.
The proceedings of the function were conducted by Bansi Lal Tidyal, general secretary of the State Association.
Dr. SM Bali, Joint Secretary Indian Olympic Association and president J&K Handball Association was the chief guest on the occasion who gave away medals and certificates to the winners. President J&K Indian Style Wrestling Association Shiv Kumar Sharma presided over the function. Member J&K State Sports Council Rahil Gupta, Divisional Sports officer Jammu, Rajan Sharma and Social Activist and Wrestling promter Ram Paul Sharma were the guests of honour.
Wrestlers who secured 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th positions in six weight categories were awarded with 5Kgs, 2Kgs, 1Kgs and 1Kg Desi Ghee along with medals and certificates.
Mr Sharma on the occasion appealed Secretary State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmed Shah that special summer coaching camp for 25 Wwrestlers for Indian Style wrestling game may be conducted like others games so that budding wrestlers can take part in the coming Invitational National Championship and Bharat Kesari 2016.
