JK Red lifts 4th Women National Ice Hockey Trophy

LEH, Jan 16: The JK Red team lifted the 4th Women National Ice Hockey Tournament 2016 played at Karzoo Ice Hockey Rink Leh today.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Yangchan Dolma formally inaugurated the tournament conducted by Ice Hockey Association of India (IHAI) in collaboration with the Ladakh Winter Sports Club (LWSC).
In a thrilling match played between JK Red and JK Blue teams, JK Red team scored one goal to take one goal lead in the first session of the match while in the second session none of the teams was able to score any goal but in the final third session of the match, JK Blue team also managed to score one goal to level the score.
As the scores leveled in the stipulated time, the play was extended for five minutes, however, none of the teams could score any goal but in penalty shootout JK Red won the match by 4 goals against JK Blues 2 goals. Delhi team managed to secure third position in the Tournament.
Chief Medical Officer, Dr Yangchan Dolma appreciating both teams for exhibiting a thrilling match said that winning and losing is part of the game but more importantly is participating in the game and she thanked the Ladakh Winter Sports Club for providing the platform for the female fraternity who excel in all the field including academic session. She added that such platform will provide the chance to imprint the Ladakh name at the International Sports Map.
Earlier, IHAI general secretary, Harjinder Singh in his welcome speech announced that for the first time in the Ice hockey history women teams from Ladakh will represent India at Challenge Cup of Asia in Chinese Taipei Taiwan.
Meanwhile, in another match played between ITBP and JK Blue team for the bronze medal, ITBP scored 2 goals to win the bronze medal.
