NEW DELHI, Nov 23: All J&K Saini Sabha led by its president, Pritam Singh Saini along with community members reached the National Capital and staged protest at Jantar-Mantar to raise their voice against forcibly inclusion of Saini community in the Other Backward Classes.
Talking to the Media persons, Pritam Singh Saini said “We, Saini community respectfully decline this decision to include our Saini community of J&K into this reserved category.”
“Our community of J&K UT doesn’t satisfy even a single indicator out of eleven indicators of backwardness specified by Mandal Commission Report. This is clear violation of constitution as well as it hurts the sentiments of our Saini community,” he added.
Singh further said that Saini community is a prosperous and economically strong community with high literacy rate, that too above national average. Majority population of the community is already serving in government, private sectors and armed forces at respectable positions, thereby contradicting the belief that Saini’s are economically, educationally and socially backward, he maintained.
“Our economically poorer peers of Saini Community are already availing the benefits of EWS reservation, and granting them OSC/OBC status will deprive them of EWS benefits. Our community never asked for any kind of reservation and we strongly believes that reservation should be based on economical conditions of an individual and we strongly oppose caste based reservation,” he said, adding that Saini community doesn’t fall under any of the criteria set by the Mandal Commission Report.
Saini said they met Divisional Commissioner, Deputy Commissioner, Commissioner Secretary Social Welfare Department and several political leaders to raise their voice but unfortunately nothing has been done in this regard. Due to which, they have no other option left to come in the National Capital to raise the voice of our community members, he claimed.
Seeking an inquiry into the matter related to granting reservation, the protesting members appealed to the Central Government to exclude Saini community from the lists of reserved castes.
