SRINAGAR, Oct 3: Continuing its winning spree, Jammu and Kashmir Under-14 boys Cricket team thrashed Andhra Pradesh by 7 wickets to make it to the pre-quarterfinal in the ongoing 59th National School Games, being organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports, here.
J&K drubbed IPSC in their opening match on the other day and got better of Andhra Pradesh in a low scoring affair and thrashed Chhattisgarh by 52 runs to register their third consecutive win today.
These consecutive victories by the Jammu and Kashmir team so far have justified the Director General Youth Services and Sports’ (DGYSS’s) decision of holding long duration camp and inviting entire squads of winner and runners-up teams for re-selection prior to their participation in the tournament.
Earlier, J&K defeated Andhra Pradesh by 7 wickets in an easy contest. Batting first, Andhra Pradesh scored 87/9 in the allotted 20 overs. J&K chased the target in 16.2 overs by losing 3 wickets, thus won the match by 7 wickets. Talha top scored with unbeaten 27 runs, while Shayed took 3 wickets.
In the another match, J&K defeated Chattisgarh by 52 runs. Batting first, J&K scored 169 in allotted 20 overs, while Chattisgarh in reply scored 117 runs in the stipulated 20 overs. Rayees scored 35 runs, while Sahil Manzoor and Taha Ashraf contributed 31 and 30 runs respectively. Kawab and Muneeb took 2 wickets each.
In other matches of the day, NVS defeated Karnataka by 61 runs. NVS scored 180/6 in reply Karnataka scored 101/3 in allotted 20 overs; Haryana prevailed over Chandigarh by 9 wickets, MP defeated Daman Dew by 43 runs, IPSC crushed Chhattisgarh by 9 wickets, Jharkhand outplayed West Bangal by 8 runs. Host Jammu and Kashmir, Delhi, MP, NVS, Gujarat, UP and Haryana have entered the pre-quarterfinal stage.
