JAMMU, Aug 22: Chairman Team Jammu, Zorawar Singh Jamwal today said that J&K State should have been part of common Central secretariat constituted by Punjab Chief Minister Capt Amrinder Singh for data and information sharing, which was critical to the fight against drug abuse and drug mafia.
Appreciating the step taken by Punjab Chief Minister in establishing a secretariat involving Haryana Chief Minister M L Khattar, Uttarakhand Chief Minister T S Rawat and Himachal Pradesh Chief minister Jai Ram Thakur, Chairman Team Jammu Zorawar Singh Jamwal, while addressing a press conference here today, pointed out that in absence of J&K State in Central secretariat, narcotic smugglers would make the J&K State safe heaven.
Zorawar Singh demanded that the J&K Governor consultation with heads of these Sates, must deploy a Nodal officer from J&K State to coordinate the sharing process and be an active member of this anti-drug State amalgam that has resolved to stop this drug menace destroying our young generation.  “J&K State should be an important ally to this amalgam so that a joint strategy  is evolved against drugs, which  are also smuggled in from porous borders in J&K State and hence making our state partners in fight against drugs will strengthen this conference that met recently in Chandigarh”, he said.
“Pressure on smugglers and drug abusers will push them all towards J&K State and hence we must also be taken into confidence and make strategic partners in this collective fight against drugs,” opined Zorawar Singh and further suggested to have a common Drug De-addiction Centre to be funded jointly by all five States, including J&K and located at a serene place in Himachal Pradesh so that adequate doctors and paramedical staff could be deployed on rotational basis or on deputation basis”.
Among others, present on the occasion, included Rajesh Kapoor, Er Chandan Datta, Sunil Raipuria, Arun Jojra, Akshay Gupta, Sardar Tarlok Singh and Badal Sharma.
