J&K Sport climbing team departs for 28th National C’ship

JAMMU, Jan 15: A five-member sport climbing team from the Mountaineering Association of J&K left today for Bengaluru from Delhi to represent the North Zone in the 28th National Sport Climbing Championship. The event will take place at the Yavanika Climbing Wall, State Youth Centre, Bengaluru from January 18 to 20.
The team includes Shivani Charak, an international climber who will also serve as the coach-cum-manager, along with Ayaana Bhagat, Kashish Bharti, Siraj ud Din, and Arun Deep Singh. The team had undergone rigorous training at international-standard climbing walls in Delhi, including the Indian Mountaineering Foundation Complex and a private gym, after being selected following a screening by the J&K Sports Council Screening Committee, led by Divisional Sports Officer.
J&K climbers were selected for the North Zone team based on their stellar performances in the North Zone Sport Climbing competition, where they won several medals. Shivani Charak secured one gold and two silver medals, Siraj ud Din won a silver, while Ayaana, Kashish, and Arun Deep each claimed bronze medals. The team is hopeful of continuing their success and securing medals at the national level.
The Mountaineering Association of J&K, led by Zorawar Singh Jamwal (President) and Shawetica Khajuria (General Secretary), has extended their best wishes for the team’s success.
