JAMMU, Jan 30: Zorawar Singh Jamwal, Secretary General Press Club of Jammu and President of Mountaineering Association of J&K flagged off J&K Sport Climbers today for participation in the 15th St. Stephen’s College Sport Climbing Competition to be held at Easwaran Bharatan Memorial Climbing Wall in St Stephen’s College Campus from January 31 to February 2, 2020 at Delhi.
Shilpa Charak, a senior Sport Climber accompanied the team as Player cum Manager.
The team comprises Shivani Charak, an International medallist who had left for New Delhi on January 26 for practice at international climbing walls in the Indian Mountaineering Foundation Complex; Arun Deep Singh, a national medallist and an international climber; Shilpa Charak, another international climber who recently represented the country in the World Youth Sport Climbing Championship at Arco, Italy and Vishali Sharma, a senior climber.
Two fresh but talented climbers Pratham Padha and Rishav Sharma have also been included in the team to provide them the much needed exposure and confidence so as to bring out their latent potential.
The competitions will be organized in the categories of Junior Boys and Junior Girls (under 16 years) and Open in both lead and speed climbing competitions. The competition carries cash prizes worth Rs 60000.
Earlier, before the climbers were given a warm send off, Zorawar Singh Jamwal and Ram Khajuria, Sr Vice President of Mountaineering Association of J&K interacted with the young climbers and promised all possible help to enable them to prepare for the national and international competitions.
