*Organizers appeal generous donors for sponsorship

JAMMU, July 18: All J&K Chess Association is organizing 41st National Sub Junior Chess Championship for Boys and 32nd National Sub Junior Championship for Girls at Jammu from September 21 to September 29, 2015. Around 350 participants including players and officials, drawn from over 20 States of the Country, are expected to take part in this sporting extravaganza, which will be held at Jalsa Retreat, near Domana, Akhnoor Road, here.
This was informed by Atul Kumar Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association (AJKCA) and joint secretary All India Chess Federation while addressing media persons at Hotel Nek, Below Gummat, here today. He was accompanied by Baldev Raj, vice president AJKCA, Taranvir Singh Gujral, chief organizing secretary and Vikas Nanda, coordinator.
He said that it was indeed a historic moment for promotion of sports in Jammu and Kashmir, adding that very high rated players of India including International masters are expected to participate in this prestigious event.
“Vice President of World Chess Federation, D V Sunder has already given his consent for being part of the opening ceremony,” Atul said.
He further said that the event will be played under FIDE Laws of Chess in Swiss System in which total 11 rounds will be played, adding that a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh along with trophies will be distributed among the winners, besides participation certificates will be presented to all the players who will take part in the event.
The organizers said that around 30-40 players from J&K State will participate in this chess extravaganza, adding that the Championship will provide big opportunity to these players to play with best in the country at home.
“Top six boys and top six girls will be selected from this event who will be sponsored for two abroad trips of Europe and Russia by Chess Federation of India. Top 20 games of the Championship will be shown live on Internet,” the organizers added.
