JAMMU, Nov 27- 61st National School Games in the sports discipline of Cricket (U-17 Girls) is being hosted by the Department of Youth Services and Sports under the aegis of School Games Federation of India (SGFI) from November 28 to December 2, 2015 at Jammu in which teams from across the country are expected to take part
This was informed by Director General, Youth Services and Sport, J&K Jammu Jahangir Mir today during a media interaction organized at Press Club Jammu here today.
Director General said that nine participating teams who have confirmed their participation includes Andhra Pradesh, CBSE, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Navodaya Vidhyalaya Samiti, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Telangana and host state J&K.
Director General informed that School Games Federation of India (SGFI) has for the first time introduced National School Games in the discipline of Cricket (U-17 Girls) and Jammu and Kashmir will host the maiden event this year .
Director General said that the various committees have been constituted for the smooth and successful conduct of the National Championship including Reception ceremony, Boarding and Lodging, Transport, Medical, Liaison, Publicity and Technical Committees. The opening and closing ceremony of the championship will be held at M.A. Stadium, Jammu on November 28and December 2, 2015 respectively.
Mr. Jahangir said that the matches will be played at M.A. Stadium, University of Jammu, KC Public School, Jammu and SMVD Shrine Board, Sports Complex Katra, Reasi.
Director General informed that prior to the National School Games the players go through various level of competitions which includes Intramural Competitions (School Level), Inter Zonal Competitions, Inter School District Level Competitions, Inter District State Level Competition. This year near about 2 lakhs boys and girls have participated in various sports competitions organized by the Department of Youth Services and Sports till November 15, 2015 during the current financial year, he added.
Director General said that in order to optimally explore the talent of youth the department of Youth Services and Sports organized various sports activities under Rajiv Gandhi Kheel Abhiyan (RGKA) at block and district level under the different age groups.
In order to provide broad based sports infrastructure to the players and to give fillip to the sports activities in the State, the department will be constructing seven block level Indoor and Outdoor Sports complexes in four districts of the State during the current financial year. Such facilities shall be provided in all the 143 erstwhile blocks in phased manner. The department has also set a target to develop 200 school playfields under District/State Sector during current financial year, he further said.
He informed that the department of Youth Services and Sports expanded its canvas and included 44 sports disciplines in the annual calendar of activities of the department for the year 2015-16 under various age groups for school going children. Till date the department of Youth Services and Sports has deputed 15 State Contingents outside the State for the participation at National level in various sports disciplines across the country.
He hoped that the events will bring people of various cultures close, giving rise to mutual brotherhood and amity.
Besides hosting of 61st National School Games, Football (U-19 years Boys) Championship at Srinagar, the department is hosting four more National Level Competitions which include Cricket (U-17 years Girls) at Jammu from November 28 to December 2, 2015, National Level Women Sports Competition Group (III) under RGKA in the discipline of Athletics, Badminton and Table Tennis at Jammu in the month of December.
