Jammu and Kashmir will hold the first-ever senior Sambo Championship for both men and women from October 25 to 28 here.
Sambo is a Russian martial art and combat sport.
“We will hold first-ever Senior Sambo Championship — both men and women categories in Jammu and Kashmir from October 25,” Anil Gupta, Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Sambo Association (JKSA) told reporters here today.
It will be played in the Indoor Complex at M A Stadium and over 250 players from 13 states across India will be participating in the competition.
“Fazloo Din Plato, President Asian Sambo Federation is expected to attend the championship and six international referees are officiating in this championship program,” he said.
Apart from the opening ceremony, the fights scheduled for October 26 are in the category of 52kg, 62kg, 68kg, 100+ kg for Men and 48kg, 60kg, 72kg, 80kg for women participants.
On October 27, fights will take place 57kg, 74kg, 82kg, 90kg, 100kg categories for men and 52kg, 56kg, 64kg, 68kg, 82kg for women will be conducted.
The first day would be reserved for registration of participants and weighing. Medal ceremony would take on the last day of the event. (PTI)
