JAMMU, Jan 3: JK-UAE T20 Cricket Friendship Cup, being organized at Ajman Oval Cricket Stadium by Simula Sports Club J&K, in association with Ministry of Youth Services and Sports and J&K Police Department got underway at Sharjah.
The objective of the tournament is to give International exposure and provide ample opportunity to the state youth to show case their skills at the international level, besides, providing them platform to play at world famous International Cricket Stadium at Dubai and Sharjah and get a chance to play and perform against the international players of UAE.
According to the reports reaching here, the Executive Board members of Ajman Oval Cricket Stadium, Khalil Ghulam Nabi, Aamir Sarfraz, Salman Ahmad, Rashid Ghulam Nabi and Shujaddin Chaudhry were present during the opening match. They lauded the efforts of Hilal Rather, former Senior State cricketer and CEO of Simula Global Group of Companies and Rajesh Gill, former Ranji Trophy Player.
The first match of the edition was played between Simula and Omfori, both from the State of J&K at Ajman Oval Cricket ground.
In the opening match played between Simula and Omorfi, Omofri won the toss and elected to bat first. Simula restricted Omorfi to a total of 72 which was easily chased down by Simula in the 9th over. Hilal Rather and Dhruv Mahajan scored 22 and 28 runs respectively.
In another low scoring match, Team Danube of UAE defeated Team Simax from J&K by 9 wickets. Batting first, Simax set a target of 69 runs which was easily chased down by Danube in 9th over. Ishfaq and Shaimaan played a great knock and scored 25 & 33 respectively. Zahoor khan took 5 wickets for Danube in his quota of 4 overs.
Team Danube consists of International Cricketers like Riaz Afridi, who has represented Pakistan National Cricket Team and three other current members of the National Team of the U.A.E.
In a thrilling match of the day after winning the toss, and elected to bat first, the fifth team participating team in the tournament, Cost Cutter, U.A.E. set a massive target of 176 runs to Team Simula. After initial hiccups Simula recovered to give a tough fight to Cost Cutter but could score only 163 runs for loss of 9 wickets. It was a high scoring match in which each team scored more than 150 runs. Asim Kaleem , Ahsan and Asif were top scorers from Cost Cutter with 41, 35 and 52 runs respectively. Sahil and Shashi took 2 wickets each from Simula.
