JAMMU, Sept 19: The J&K UT Bench Press Championship for Sub Junior, Junior, Senior and Master Categories concluded at the Indoor Stadium Bhagwati Nagar, Jammu. Organized by the All J&K UT Powerlifting Association under the banner of Powerlifting India, the event attracted around 250 athletes from various districts, including Jammu, Kathua, Samba, Poonch and more.
The Championship was inaugurated by chief guest Abdul Rashil from Northern Railway and special guest RK Meena, who presented awards to the winners and runners-up. In the senior category, Adesh Singh, Aditya Sharma, Meenu Kalotra, and Sakshi Koul were recognized as the best lifters in unequipped and equipped events. The Junior best lifters included Abdul Momin Dar, Anshu Sharma, and Shivani Langeh, while Mukul Seth, Dawar Javed and Suhani Sharma excelled in the Sub Junior category. Gharjeet Singh and Manmeet Singh claimed top honors in the Master I category.
Notably, athletes Adesh Singh, Vikrant Singh, Arush Sharma, Meenu Kalotra and Shivani Langeh set new J&K UT records, lifting 202.5 kg, 192.5 kg, 110 kg, 107.5 kg, and 97.5 kg, respectively.
The event was well-organized under the supervision of Indoor Manager Ritika Slathia, with key officials including Ajay Sharma (General Secretary), Rahul Sawhney (Senior Vice President), and other members of the association.
In the women’s category, gold medal winners included Puneet Kour, Heena Naz, Bhumi Arya, Diksha Kapoor, Sakshi Koul, Juhi Sharma, Kusum Lata, Sneha, Pooja Devi, Suhani Sharma, Khushi Sharma, Harshita Sharma, Kavya Sharma, Bhagirathi, Ritika Singh, Meenu Kalotra, Aditi Bhagat, Farishta, Al Sana Khan and Shivani Langeh.
In the men’s category, gold medallists included Arush Sharma, Harsh Kumar, Rajat Kumar, Harshpreet Singh, Vinay Sharma, and many others. The championship highlighted the exceptional talent in powerlifting within the region, promoting sportsmanship and dedication among participants.
