JAMMU, Mar 27: The J&K UT Gymnastics Championships 2024-25 were inaugurated today at the Gymnastics Academy, M A Stadium, Jammu, by Vishal Abrol, Vice Chairman of the Indian Institute of Architects J&K Chapter, as the chief guest. A total of 250 gymnasts, including first-time participants, from eight districts – Jammu, Srinagar, Budgam, Shopian, Samba, Poonch, Reasi and Kathua are competing in the championships, which feature Aerobics, Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics for both boys and girls across various age groups.
The competition began with events for the Mini, Sub-Junior and Junior age groups in Artistic and Rhythmic Gymnastics. Senior competitions will take place tomorrow. The inauguration also featured colorful demonstrations by international female gymnasts, who are participating in the event.
In his inaugural speech, Vishal Abrol emphasized the significance of such events in promoting gymnastics at the grassroots level. Er. Kiran Wattal, President of the Gymnastics Association, praised the role of the J&K administration, particularly the Secretary of the Sports Council, in supporting gymnastics activities at both the UT and national levels.
Notably, J&K gymnasts have recently won multiple medals at the National Games in Jharkhand. Seven J&K gymnasts have been selected for international competitions. Wattal also thanked the J&K administration, led by the LG, Manoj Sinha for providing the gymnasts with a world-class academy equipped with international-level apparatus, and for the support extended by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and the Sports Minister in organizing such events.
