JAMMU, Apr 10: The Junior Men & Women J&K Union Territory Wrestling Championship concluded with great enthusiasm at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu. The one-day event saw intense competition among participants from various districts, showcasing the growing interest in wrestling across the region.
Dushyant Sharma, SSP J&K Police, former international wrestler and former president of the Wrestling Federation of India, was the chief guest. In his address, he lauded the Wrestling Association of J&K for its tireless efforts in promoting young talent and conducting regular events at district and UT levels. Sharing personal anecdotes from his wrestling career, he inspired the participants and emphasized the importance of discipline and dedication in sports. Mementoes were also presented to event officials in recognition of their contributions.
Basudev, President of the Wrestling Association of J&K, extended his gratitude to Dushyant Sharma for gracing the occasion. Other dignitaries present included Jai Bharat (General Secretary), Dheeraj Sharma, Ravinder Sharma, Krishan Singh, Gurdeep Singh, Roshan Sharma, Ajay Bharti, Sahil Dagoria, Kusum Rani and Vireshwar Bhardwaj.
In the results, Surya Uday (57 kg), Binay Been (61 kg), Ansar Khan (65 kg), Gorab Singh (70 kg), Mohd Saqib (74 kg), Anshu Sharma (79 kg), Amarjit (86 kg), Abhishek Singh (92 kg), Biniya (97 kg) and Lovejeet (125 kg) clinched first place in the men’s category. Kaka Singh, Deepak Singh, Azad Ali, Azmat Ali, Vansh Sharma, Inzamam, Mohd Arif, Salal Din, Bhanu Partap and Shivam Sharma secured second place, while Pankaj Kumar, Tarun Singh, Nitin Singh, Yaseer Hussain, Shakeel Ahmed, Shakun Singh, Sajan Singh, Arun Sharma, Nasim Choudhary and Jai Dev Singh took third place respectively.
In the women’s category, Pooja Devi (50 kg) and Mishti Sharma (53 kg) won gold, followed by Ashu Devi, Madhuri (silver) and Rekha Devi, Varsha Devi (bronze).
The winners will represent J&K at the Junior National Wrestling Championship in Kota, Rajasthan from April 20 to 22.
