JAMMU, Aug 5: The Jammu and Kashmir Union Territory (JKUT) Kalarippayattu team has departed for the 16th National Kalarippayattu Championship 2024, set to take place from August 9 to 11 at the Lakshmibai National College of Physical Education (LNCPE) Indoor Sports Complex in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala.
Following selection trials held during the 7th J&K UT Kalarippayattu Championship, the 27-member team, which includes 12 boys, 14 girls, and one coach, left for the national event. The team was flagged off by several prominent figures, including CA Lalit K. Gupta, President of the Kalarippayattu Association of J&K, Manjeet Singh, Chairman of the Kalarippayattu Association of J&K, Rajeev Sharma, Member of the J&K Sports Council, and other officials.
The selected athletes heading to the championship are Sarvagya Gupta, Saiyaan Bali, Vihaan Gupta, Aaidah Nabi, Noorain Fatima, Medhavi Lakhanpal, Syed Tanees Zubair, Nitin Kumar, Pratham Vaid, Chirag Puri, Vinayak Gupta, Furkaan Jameel, Tejshree Singh, Palak Sharma, Harsheen Kour Bhatia, Aapurti Saini, Mishti Sharma, Anandika, Adarishta Manhas, Aqsa Farid, Manvi Sharma, Harshita Kour, Basit Bashir, Iqbal Singh Khalsa, Saksham Langeh and Jaideep Manhas. Danish Sharma will serve as the team coach. The team is poised to represent Jammu and Kashmir with pride at this prestigious national event.
