JAMMU, Dec 30: The J&K UT Masters Athletics Annual Championship, organized by the J&K Masters Athletics Association under the aegis of the J&K Sports Council, concluded today at New University Ground, here today. The event saw the participation of around 150 athletes from various districts of J&K.
Tejinder Singh, DIG of J&K Police for Rajouri & Poonch Range, was the chief guest, and Dr. Daud Iqal Baba, Director of the Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, was the guest of honour. The championship was conducted under the supervision of senior athletics coach Gurchargan Singh. Members of the association, including Chairman B.R. Chandan, President Abdul Quyoom, General Secretary Tarseem Bastora, and Rampaul Kapoor, congratulated all participants and medal winners.
The event featured several track and field categories. In the men’s 100m race, Danish Yousaf claimed the gold in the 35+ category, Tajinder Singh won in the 40+, Shafat-UL-Bashir in the 45+, Chamel Singh in the 50+, Dr. Sanjeev Mohan in the 55+, Surjit Choudhary in the 60+, and Govind Singh in the 70+ category. In the women’s 100m, Anissa Nabi won the gold in the 40+ category, Sumitra Sharma in the 45+, Seema Kharyal in the 50+, and Kanta Butial in the 60+ category.
In the 200m race, Danish Yousaf bagged the gold in the 35+, Tajinder Singh in the 40+, Kewal Krishan in the 45+, Makhan Lal in the 50+, Dr. Sanjeev Mohan in the 55+, and Surjit Choudhary in the 60+ category. Anissa Nabi won the gold in the 40+ women’s category, Pushpavathi JP in the 45+, Raj Rani in the 55+, and Kanta Butial in the 65+ category. In the 400m race, Danish Yousaf won in the 35+, Abishek Sharma in the 40+, Ryaz Ahmed in the 45+, Rakesh Kumar in the 50+, and B.R. Chandan in the 70+ men’s category. Balvinder Kour won in the 30+ women’s category, Anuradha in the 40+, Pushpavathi JP in the 45+, Satwant Kour in the 50+, and Kanta Butial in the 65+ category.
In the 800m race, Ram Rakha won the gold in the 35+, Abhishek Gupta in the 40+, Shafat-UL-Bashir in the 45+, Ram Raj in the 50+, Sanjay Kumar in the 55+, and Sham Suri in the 60+ category for men. Anuradha won the 40+ women’s category and Sandeep Kour claimed the 55+ women’s gold. In the 1500m walk, Sarfaraz won the 35+, Sushil Kumar the 40+, H Pankaj the 45+, Capt. Anand Kumar the 55+, Vinay Bargotra the 60+, Tilak Raj Sharma the 65+, and Govind Singh the 70+ gold in the men’s categories. Shobana won the 45+ women’s category, Veena Kumari the 50+, and Sandeep Kour the 55+.
In the 1500m run, Mangat Singh claimed the gold in the 35+, Abhishek Sharma in the 40+, Vishal Sharma in the 45+, Sanjay Kumar in the 55+, and Rishi Choudhary in the 60+ category for men. In the 5000m run, Rabi K Jassal won the 35+, Ankur Basotra in the 40+, Shafat-UL-Bashir in the 45+, Ram Raj in the 50+, Ajay Gandotra in the 55+, Rishi Choudhary in the 60+, Tilak Raj Sharma in the 65+, and Govind Singh in the 70+ category for men. Anuradha claimed the gold in the 40+ women’s category.
In the 5000m walk, H Pankaj won in the 45+, Rajan Gupta in the 55+, Vinay Bargotra in the 60+, Lal Chand Verma in the 65+, and Tarsem Basotra in the 70+ category for men. Shobana won in the 45+ and Seema Kharyal in the 50+ women’s categories. In the 10,000m run, Mangat Singh and Ravi K Jassal won the gold in the 35+, Abhishek Gupta in the 40+, Reyaz Ahmed in the 45+, Bushan Sharma in the 50+, Ajay Gandotra in the 55+, Sham Suri in the 60+, Tilak Raj Sharma in the 65+, and Satish Vaid in the 70+ men’s categories.
In the field events, in the Shotput categories, Balvinder Kour won the gold in the 30+, Kuljeet Kour in the 35+, Ruchita Mehta in the 40+, Sumitra Sharma in the 45+, and Manpreet Kour in the 50+ for women. In the men’s Shotput, Sarfaraz won in the 35+, Shabir Kumar in the 40+, Vishal Sharma in the 45+, Gurucharan Singh in the 50+, Parvez Ahmed in the 55+, and Rishi Choudhary in the 60+.
In the Discus Throw, Zubair Ahmed won the gold in the 35+, Shabir Kumar in the 40+, Gurcharan Singh in the 50+, Parvez Ahmed in the 55+, A D S Mamhas in the 60+, Ravi Singh in the 65+, and Sardari Lal Dubey in the 70+ for men. Balvinder Kour won in the 30+, Kuljeet Kour in the 35+, Pushpavathi JP in the 45+, and Manpreet Kour in the 50+ women’s categories.
