JAMMU, Aug 4: The U-23 Men & Women J&K-UT Level Wrestling Championship concluded today at Jammu University. Organized by the Wrestling Association of J&K with support from the Wrestling Federation of India, J&K Sports Council and J&K Olympic Association, the event drew a large number of wrestlers from various districts in the region.
Dheeraj Sharma, chairman of the selection committee, welcomed Dawood Iqbal Baba, Director of Physical Education and Sports at Jammu University, who was the chief guest. Sharma’s expertise in national and international wrestling played a crucial role in selecting wrestlers for the upcoming U-23 National Championship, set to take place in Rohtak, Haryana, from August 16-18, 2024.
The Championship featured intense competition across multiple weight categories. Medal winners were recognized for their outstanding performances: Gold: Vishal Choudhary, Anil Singh, Kulwinder Singh, Zakir, Gulshan Chib, Mohd Sadeeq, Amarjeet, Mohd Irfan, Madhan Singh, Yuvraj Singh. Silver: Ankit Choudhary, Sachin Singh, Keshav Singh, Gulam Sawar, Asif Ali, Mudassar Ahmed, Sunil Singh, Maksood Ahmed, Kulbhushan, Vikram Singh while bronze medal winners were Mohd Aslam, Latief, Amrik Singh, Nitin Singh, Shubham Singh, Showkat Ali, Toffeq Umar, Vipan Saini, Dheeraj Choudhary and Mohd Aquib
The ceremony was attended by notable figures including Jai Bharat, General Secretary of the Wrestling Association of J&K; Om Parkash, Treasurer; and other prominent individuals such as Swarn Lal, Ravinder Sharma, Krishan Singh, Roshan Sharma, Anil Kumar, and Raj Kumar.
