JAMMU, Feb 24: J&K Veterans Cricket Association XI (JKVCA XI) won a cliff hanger by defeating Combine Cricket Club by 6 wickets on the last ball of the match, being played at MA Stadium, here today.
Amit Sharma, captain of Combine Cricket Club won the toss and elected to bat first but wickets kept on tumbling for Combined Cricket Club as JKVCA XI bowlers bowled on testing line as Vivek Suri captain of JKVCA XI rotated the bowlers wisely.
Rajesh (40) and Ravi (22) steadied the innings for Combined CC and took the total to 136 for losing 7 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. For J&K Veterans Cricket Association XI, Ashish Singh and Sachin Jamwal took 3 wickets and Rajesh Raina got 1 wicket.
Chasing a target of 137 runs, JKVCA XI batsmen Ashwani Jandyal and Viraj gave a solid start of 34 runs in 3.5 overs before Ashwani was out on 13 runs. Viraj was ably supported by Abhishek and they both played sensibly and shared 65 runs partnership for second wicket.
Abhishek was out for 20 runs but Ashish (15) and Rajesh Dutt (18*) held their nerves which helped JKVCA XI to chase the target on the last ball of the match and won the match by 6 wickets. For Combined CC, Abhinav took 2 wickets whereas Rajesh, Bhanu and Asrar shared 1 wicket each.
Ashish Singh of J&K Veterans Cricket Association XI was declared as man of the match for his all-round performance.
