J&K wins 6 medals in Sport Climbing Competition

JAMMU, Feb 9: Three member J&K team won 3 silver and 3 bronze medals in the 11th St. Stephen’s Open Sport Climbing Competition held at Easwaran Memorial climbing wall in St Stephen College premises, Delhi.
Shilpa Charak and Shivani Charak of J&K had to face a fierce competition in both the rounds of Lead climbing. Finally, Shivpreet Pannu of Punjab, a national medalist, emerged victorious and Shilpa and Shivani had to contend with 2nd and 3rd places respectively.
Similarly, in the Open women category of lead climbing Shivpreet again secured the gold medal and Shivani and Shilpa of J&K secured the Silver and Bronze medals respectively.
However, Shivani added third medal to her kitty when she performed well to clinch a bronze medal in speed climbing in the open women category also.
The third J&K climber, Aman Dogra, national champion in speed climbing, did well to secure third spot in Boys lead climbing.
The three J&K climbers Shivani, Shilpa and Aman were awarded with cash prizes of Rs 4300, Rs.2400 and Rs. 1000 respectively.
The team on its return from Delhi was felicitated by Mountaineering Association of J&K at Sprawling Buds School, Chinore, Jammu.
Prominent among others present on the felicitation function were general secretary and joint secretary of Mountaineering Association of J&K, Ram Khajuria and Shawetica Khajuria; Directors of Sprawling Buds School Rahul Sharma and Arti Sharma, Satish Bhan and Akshi.
