JK women fencing team wins 2nd runner up trophy; men teams win bronze, silver

JAMMU, Feb 11: The lone women fencer participant from J&K Shreya Gupta in her valiant efforts of winning fencing Gold in the Khelo India Youth Games at Madhya Pardesh helped JK UT to clinch coveted 2nd runner up trophy in the women fencing competition.
This is first fencing trophy for J&K in Khelo India Youth Games. Meanwhile, Harshit Kohli secured individual bronze medal in Sabre category by defeating fencer from Rajasthan by 15-12. Earlier men’s Epee team of Sufyan Waheed, Sohit Thakur, Aryan Sethi and Ranvir Jamwal won bronze by defeating highly ranked Manipur in a close finish 45-44 in the medal bout. The J&K held their nerves in the tense and dying moments of the match.
In Men’s Sabre category, silver medal was won by team comprising Suryansh Sharma, Harshit Kohli, Anybhav Sharma and Vatsal Gandotra. The J&K team defeated Telengana comprehensively by 45-36 in semifinal. In the final, the team was defeated by Maharashtra by a narrow margin of 45-42.
Secretary, J&K Sports Council Nuzhut Gul congratulated J&K fencing contingent and coaches for bringing laurels to the UT. MJ Sharma (president, J&K Amateur Fencing) also showered his blessings for their tremendous performance.
