JAMMU, Oct 25: J&K Junior Wushu team emerged as 2nd runner up in the Sanda event and remained consecutive second time at 3rd place in the 20th Junior National Wushu Championship, organised at LPU Jalandhar from October 20 to 25.
J&K Wushu team secured two Gold and four Bronze medals in the championship while Haryana topped with eight Gold, two Silver and two Bronze medals and Manipur clinched two Gold, Silver and two Bronze besides Uttar Pradesh bagged a Gold and three Silver medals.
Sadia Tariq and Ansa Chisti secured Gold medals below 48 kg and 52 kg respectively. It is the second consecutive Gold medal for the Sadia Tariq, whereas Ansa Chisti converted her previous silver medal to Gold. Ayra Chisti, Kaifa Shah, Ali and Ajmal secured Bronze medals in the championship.
Bhupender Singh Bajwa, president of Wushu Association of India was the chief guest of the closing ceremony who presented medals to all medallists. He was accompanied by the MD of the Lovely Professional University Jalandhar and president of the Punjab Wushu Association Surinder Singh Sodhi (Arjun Awardee).
The office bearers of Wushu Association of J&K including chief patron Yogesh Sawhney, congratulated all the medallists for their commendable performance in the championship especially of J&K for their commendable performance.
Vijay Saraf, president of Wushu Association of J&K has appealed to LG J&K Manoj Sinha for giving prominence to this sport as Wushu is the only sports which is giving medals for the Union Territory in the Asian Games, World Championship, Asian Championship and moreover is the best among the three States in the country at the National level.
Senior vice president of the Association, Ranjeet Kalra appreciated the junior team for their outstanding performance in the championship. “Six players of the J&K have qualified for the Youth Asian Games Coaching Camps,” he informed.
