Leh, Mar 28: J&K Academy of Art, Culture and Language in collaboration with Ladakh Theatre Organization (LTO) celebrated World Theatre Day at Lotsava Auditorium. LAHDC CEC Dr Sonam Dawa was chief guest on the occasion while EC Works Dorjay Mutup, Councillor Rinchen Lhamo and scholars and religious head were also present to witness the function.
On the eve of World Theatre Day student after attending ten day theatre workshop presented a play on corruption “Nad-ngan Phagsub” which was applauded by all present guests.
CEC Dr. Sonam Dawa admitted that corruption has become a fashion in the society where honest people don’t find a space in the society. He informed that LAHDC Council had taken steps to rooted out corruption from society and he seek public support in his endeavour.
He said that if we pledge not to give then no question of corruption. CEC seeks advice from all scholars and expert to formulate policies and programme to preserve and promote theatre in schools. He said that such steps will boost the confidence level of student and inspire them to be more creativity.
On the occasion, scholar Thupstan Paldan was honoured for fetching Basha Saman Awards recently.
LTO Director Mipham Otsal said that LTO have been celebrating the World Theatre Day since its inception in 1995 to keep the art alive. He also urged CEC to include theatre in school curriculum to impart theatre education.
Presenting his views on theatre, E.S Gergan said that theatre is combination of creation and communication which has the power to influence and inspire the audience. He urged Hill Council to give opportunity to promote creativity in any arts form otherwise Ladakh will die.
