JAMMU, Sept 14: J&K AIDS Control Society (JKACS) organized a five-kilometers run for creating awareness on HIV/AIDS and related issues today at Jammu University.
The UT-level Red Run Activity was organized in collaboration with Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, University of Jammu for College and University level students with a special focus on the topic “Youth for HIV/AIDS awareness”.
The activity started with the flagging off of 2 km on-road walkathon activity inside the university campus by the chief guest Dr Abdul Rouf Bhat (Project Director, JKACS) in presence of guest of honour Prof Anju Bhasin (Dean, Academic Affairs, University of Jammu), Dr SP Sarswat (Nodal Principal, Colleges of Jammu Division), Dr Manu Bhatnagar (Additional Director/Incharge CST JKACS, Madan Lal (Deputy Director Finance) and Dr Monika Wali (MO /Incharge IEC, JKACS ) along with other officials from the collaborating departments.
The whole event was planned with the support provided by Daud Iqbal Baba (Director, Directorate of Sports & Physical Education, JU). More than 200 students (members of Red Ribbon Clubs) from different colleges took part in the walkathon. The walkathon was followed by a 5-km Red Run Activity on the athletic track under the supervision of technical staff of JU in which around 100 students including boys and girls from different colleges participated.
The winners of the Red Run were awarded by the chief guest along with other dignitaries present on the stage. First position was bagged by Parul Sharma in women’s and Raman in men’s category respectively (both from JU). The winners from J&K will participate in the national level running competition to be organized by NACO in the coming months.
Later a felicitation function was held in which mementoes were presented to the dignitaries, nodal officers of the Red Ribbon Clubs and other concerned officials of the participating departments.
